A bit of Canadian scandal
When the Queen was to make her 2010 tour,
the husband of the then Governor General Michaelle Jean
asked the Queen to stay in a hotel instead of Rideau Hall because they would not be home during the time of her visit.

Imagine that - the house only belongs to the Queen!
The Queen ended up staying at her house.
It made national news.....we Canadians were not amused!!
I have only been to Rideau Hall once, many years ago.
It was incredibly beautiful!

Very interesting. I've never seen pictures of it. Thanks for sharing =)
What an amazing place! It's really beautiful ~ very pretty colors used on the interior too. I don't think I would tell the Queen she couldn't stay there ~ probably not a good idea! : )
What an interesting post Diane. I didn't know a lot of those facts at all nor did I realize how large and beautiful this home is! The arial shot at the end shows all the back buildings attached and greenhouses - immense. Thanks for sharing this bit of Canadiana. Pamela
Beautiful! It somehow manages to look cozy and welcoming despite being huge.
Oh what a beautiful place! I love that striped room... It's so unexpected! Thanks for these gorgeous photos!
Blessings, Joanne
How amazing. Oh how rude...it's your house but you can't stay there. Thanks for the tour and the info.

Rideau Hall is incredibly beautiful, isn't it! I have never seen any photos of it, this is such a treat!
I wonder what possessed the former governor general's husband to ask the Queen to stay elsewhere during her stay?! What!?!?! Some people have real nerve.
Hugs, Cindy
