My Son's High School Graduation

A Commencement Ceremony, my son, his friends,
.....and Justin Bieber.

What an evening it was!
My son's last hours as a high school student.
His last hours to roam the halls of the building that gave him the best time of his life.
Great fun, lifelong friends and a solid education.
He was both excited and melancholy to see the end this chapter of his life,
but optimistic with starting a new.

It is always so amazing to see his friends.
A very close group of pals that have been through thick and thin since elementary days.
An extraordinary bond I hope lasts them through their lives.

Friends.

How does Justin Bieber fit into all this?
In the Commencement flyer, it list's all the graduating students of 2012.
Justin Bieber's name was listed.
He attended elementry school in Stratford, but struck fame at the start of his high school life.
I assumed, he continued his education via correspondence with the local public school board here.

He was in the same grade as my son and I knew he was graduating this year,
but I always thought he was taking his correspondence with another high school in the area.
In the Province of Ontario, we have two main school boards - the public school board and the Roman Catholic school board.
I have raised both my children in the Catholic school system.

A sea of blue

I knew that Bieber went to a local Catholic elementary school here in town,  therefore it should not have surprised me last evening to see that he did in fact, graduate through my son's Catholic high school, via correspondence.
As I sat there last evening, watching the graduation ceremony enfold, it occurred to me how sad it was that Justin Bieber could not graduate with his friends he has known since elementary school.
It really does not matter how rich and famous you are, there are things in life you just have to experience.
Walking on that stage to get your high school diploma, is one of those times.

My son, shaking hands with the Principal.

Receiving his diploma.

I am so proud of my son.
He worked very hard this year with excellent grades to show for his hard work.

Best part of my life.....my children.

Games of Evil

Last evening my daughter and I were enjoying a quiet moment on the deck of our summer trailer.
She mentioned she would be enrolling, this fall at school, in a course on evil.

I thought to myself....why in carnation would you want to study that.
If you want to study evil, read the paper or watch the evening news.....plenty of it there.

However, having said that, I think it would indeed be interesting to study evil.
How does one define evil?
What causes a person to go completely over the edge?

Where does hope go when you succumb to such heinous crimes.
How can one person do abominable acts to another.
Things you and I will never understand in our lifetime.

I am sure all those professional out there who are experts in psychology and criminology have a theory or two.
I, like everyone else, like to watch criminal shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, Castle.
It is interesting to watch these kinds of programs,
we watch them because it is a way of life we know we would never live.

But watching the evening news of a real life crime is disturbing.
It is one thing when Hollywood puts together a story for 60 minutes,
but when a real life sociopath is on the rampage, it is scary.
I guess that is the definition of evil.

Look at this past Spring, when most Canadians were enthralled in the Michael Rafferty trial.  He kidnapped, raped and murdered little Victoria Stafford.  We followed this case because we try to understand how such hideous crimes can actually be carried out, how they can be committed in the first place.

We follow these kinds of story because we want to see what evil looks like.  How evil thinks.
We try to understand.  We try.

 Evil is the Devil.
The Lord fights evil and demons everyday.
Evil might be committed everyday,  however, you know how the saying goes.....
you can run, but you can never hide.
God and good always prevails.  In the end, it always wins.

A Pretty Park

Yesterday, I was up at the trailer.
Both my children were there, both studying for upcoming school exams.
At one point daughter asked me if I would like to take a walk around the camp ground.

As this is only my second week owning my trailer,
I had yet not ventured outside of my own little corner of the park.
To my surprise, the park grounds were very lovely.

 Three pretty lake and creeks.

A peaceful moment for my daughter Rachel,
probably thinking about her upcoming mid-term exams.

It was a very warm day yesterday, temperature at 32C/90F.
The bugs were bad, they were eating me alive!
Note to self.....buy bug repellent.

There were a ton of bird houses on the property......after a while I gave up counting.

The park is on Native Indian land,
the grounds were deep in Indian culture and history.

Statues and plaques here and there.

My favourite garden angel.

I thought this was cute.
Beaver Crossing.....so very Canadian....eh!

I think I am going to just love my summer this year.

This is my little pretty corner of the park.
I know you all have seen pics of my trailer a million times.....but I can't help it, am so proud of it!

Rodeo Man

She's In Love With A Rodeo Man

One of my very favourite songs by Don Williams.

She's a barmaid in a west Texas dance hall
She's there ev'ry night till they close
And the cowboy's pay for the jukebox
And she plays 'San Antonio Rose'

Well I know her life ain't been easy
And the lines in her face say it all
But she still is a beautiful woman
In the lights of the Texas dance hall

But she won't sit down at your table
And I know that you can't hold her hand
She won't go home with you cowboy
She's in love with a rodeo man

Well he's hard and he's scarred and he's grayin'
And he's stoned most all of the time
And he drinks at a dark corner table
And he waits there until closin' time

She won't sit down at your table
And I know that you can't hold her hand
She won't go home with you cowboy
She's in love with a rodeo man
