Boughs of Glad Tidings

Each year I generally wait until the last week of November to launch my Christmas.
Well, we are now in full swing Christmas and loving every minute of it!

This year I am thinking I would like to have something different.
A simple, green Christmas.
Both inside my house and outside.
And what better place to get ideas and inspiration than Pinterest

Green as in evergreen.

Every year I enjoy my traditional red and green decor.
But this year, I am thinking I would like to decor the season naturally.
A graceful country Christmas theme perhaps.

Add some silver birch, those logs and branches are everywhere in my neck of the woods.

Neutral colours of beige and white.
How pretty.
Maybe trim a flock tree, or a little bit of snow here and there.

Dig around for an old pair of skates.

Pine cones everywhere.
I love the rustic look of them.

Incorporate lots of burlap.

Christmas - the best season of all.
I wait for it the whole year round!

Let's Have A Look At Farm Choice #3

So far we have taken a tour of farmette #1 here.
Then there was pretty farm #2, that really wasn't a farm  here.
So, let's move on to tour #3. A sweet hobby farm on two acres of land.

The farm included a side-split house along with three outbuildings.
A large drive in shed, a chicken house and the furnace shed.
So far so good.

Large drive in shed

When I walked into the chicken house, I was almost sold!
In the pic below, the chicken house is the building in the middle. To the left is the furnace shed.

chicken house

Why....hello Mr. chicken, or should I say Ms. chicken.
I know zero about raising chickens, so it should be interesting when the time comes!
I mean, just look at them, their so cute!
Easy peasy....right!

Strolling around the backyard.

Awesome deck.

Ginormous pool.

The view from the front of the house.
Looking out to the gravel road.

We finally head inside.
It was a sweet home.
But sorry to say, not the home for me.  It just wasn't what I was looking for.
Nevertheless, lets take the tour anyway.

The front foyer.

The livingroom to the left of these stairs.

The kitchen.

The diningroom off the kitchen.

Family room off the diningroom.

The house just seemed to go on forever.
There were four bedrooms upstairs. A den downstairs. Main floor laundry and a big, big basement.

I did consider this house, giving it lots of thought.  But in the end,  just too many changes and renovations.
I was already tearing down walls, re-doing floors and carpet, making this room larger and that room smaller.
Expenses that would run me a lot of money.

Those of you that are taking these tours with me agree that a forever home is a thought process and not to be rushed. And that is exactly what I am doing.
This is the time for me to shop around. It has to be financially affordable and practical.
I hope to get a small farm with a couple of horses and of course, some of those cute chickens! :)

I want privacy, yet close enough to a small town and down the road from that, a bigger Metropolitan for major shopping.

So I look and I wait.
This property had everything I was looking for, the privacy, the space, a chicken coop, the small town, the bigger town not far, but the house just wasn't right for me.

So the hunt for farm tour #4 continues.
I will be taking a bit of a hiatus from farm hunting.
With me moving into a new rental house and Christmas just around the corner from that, I will be a busy lady for a while.
But as always, will keep you in the loop.

Horse Therapy

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Ours was a busy one.
We toured two farms up for sale, gave a dinner for my mom's 75th birthday,
did a little bit of packing and even got in a bit of shopping here and there.
Busy, busy.
The second farm tour I will get pics out shortly.
In the mist of all this busy chaos, we manage to get a little bit of horse therapy in.

Daughter Rachel had accompanied me on this particular farm tour.
On our way back home Rachel was a little tired and sore.
Since her accident the summer of 2011, her life has drastically changed.
Once an avid horsewoman, she has not been back in the saddle since.
I know she misses that life terribly.

After the tour, as we were driving home we passed a tack shop.
She sighed and said she misses riding and horses in general.

I made an immediate decision right there and then, braked and turned around.
I know there would be beauties out in the pastures on that bright, warm beautiful day.
And there they were.

The owner of the shop was very happy to talk us into buying this blonde beauty, Diamond.
But sadly it is an expense I can not afford right now.
I might consider it when we get closer to buying the farm.
She was such a mild and calm pony.

I know that Rachel would have loved to get in the paddock with them.
If she could she would grab a comfy chair, a good book, a couple of dogs
and sit right there amongst all the animals she loves.
But as it is, she just enjoyed them from the fence.

For almost two hours, with the horses and shopping inside the tack shop,
we were ready to leave.  We bought a few horse brushes and some equestrian decor.

Put her in the company of a few horses, and Rachel was one happy girl!
Thank you Diamond for visiting with us.  :)

Horse therapy indeed.

Farm Tour #2 (That Wasn't Really A Farm)

You'll be proud of me,  I remembered my camera this tour
and took a few pics for you guys to have a look.

I can tell you right away, this house will not be in the running.
The property it turns out was in a small hamlet and not in the country at all.
The house was pretty enough, but I do want a few acres for me to keep horses and chickens.
So enjoy the tour anyway - there are a lot of pics, so grab a cuppa.

Pretty house with just as pretty grounds.

Why.....hello Mr. Shakespeare.
This home was very close to the Shakespearean town of Stratford.

Let's head inside.

The livingroom

The library

Heading into the diningroom from the library.

The diningroom

Upstairs

One of the bedrooms

The washroom

The kitchen

So there you have it, farm tour #2.
Unfortunately it turned out not be a farm, but all the same it was still a nice tour.

Daughter Rachel was very impressed with this house.
Both she and I picked up some excellent decorating ideas.

It has been a very busy weekend for me.
I took another farm tour.
I am trying to get as many tours in as I can before the snow hits.
So I will get out the pics of farm tour #3 shortly.
